“ Thank you for this beautiful dog, who has never left my side for the last five weeks, who pushes closer against my leg each time I cry.. "
This morning I awoke, made my way over six icy blocks to the gym, came home, started a pot of coffee, attached Luke to his leash, followed him through the cold winds up 7th Avenue and back, took a shower, then walked around the deafening silence of my apartment, pausing at each room: Thank you, Krishna, for my comfortable bed, for the view of the pretty park across the street I wake to each morning. Thank you for the little blue bedroom where my friends will stay because they want to be with me. Thank you for the backyard with trees that give apples, the hammock to rest in and the roses that bloomed until December. Thank you for the good fortune to have a room with an altar and candles so I can stop to remember why I am. Thank you for the heat that blasts through the radiators, keeping me warm. Thank you for this beautiful dog, who has never left my side for the last five weeks, who pushes closer against my leg each time I cry, and who will quietly allow me to go to work today then show his forgiveness when I return tonight. Thank you for the tight embrace your children give me when I see them, for the endless light of compassion, understanding and love you are showing me, and for the hope you have put into my heart, even on this, one of my saddest days. Hare Krishna.
